Oxfam Hong Kong rates HK companies on transparency

November 18, 2006

Oxfam HK ReportUsing much of the same methodology as the Ethical Trading Action Group to rate companies on how transparent they are on labour rights compliance in their supply chains, Oxfam Hong Kong rated the top 16 Hong Kong garment companies on transparency in November 2006.

Oxfam HK's "Transparency Report - How Hong Kong Garment Companies Can Improve Public Reporting of their Labour Standards", found that 16 major Hong Kong garment companies are not providing the public enough information on labour standards and practices in their supply chain.

Oxfam Hong Kong urges these garment companies to demonstrate a commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility through:

  1. Providing consumers with sufficient information on labour practices in their supply chains;
  2. Committing to ethical labour standards in the supply chain at the highest level of corporate management and ensuring labour standards are integrated throughout the company;
  3. Protecting and promoting labour rights, and thereby contributing to poverty reduction.

The 16 garment companies in Oxfam Hong Kong's report are: Esprit, Giordano, PMTD Limited, Moiselle, Texwinca, Bossini, Heroic Rendezvous, Youth Grace International Limited, I.T Limited, Veeko, Lai Sun, Goldlion, G2000, Chickeeduck, U-Right, F.C.K.
